FREAKs is the story of Hildy, a 14 year old born with a congenital hip defect, who narrates her 9th Grade experience in Vanderville Junior High. Her mother, a classical ballet dancer, is dead and her father has taken Hildy "on the road," moving from job to job, from state to state in an effort to forget. "Always the new girl," Hildy finds herself in yet another school, this time at Vanderville Junior High School on Long Island, where she meets Scotty Dwyer, a dwarf, and Harrison Jakove, the school doormat. In an act of self-defense against the WHEELS, the three of them band together and become the FREAKs, and in the end their lives are changed forever by their experience. FREAKs is a humorous story and it is sad that will make you laugh and cry. FREAKs is one book that will be loved by everyone, young or old, who has gone to school.
